Nevada Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law requires that each state develop a procedure for alerting local residents when a sexual offender is relocated into their area.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previous sexual offender that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and murdered her. It was concluded that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had been alerted that a repeated sexual offender was residing in their neighborhood, this crime would have been avoided. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any objections.
Ever since the law was enacted, Nevada has made it a point to protect its citizens the most current information relating to convicted sex offenders and their place of residence. The law has proven that while sex crimes are still a occuring in the U.S., crimes committed by past offenders are on a decline.
The information attainable through the passing of Megan's Law has continued to be a critical benefit in keeping one's family shielded from the threat of sexual misconduct.
