Nevada Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law makes it mandatory for every state develop a procedure for informing the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their area.
Megan was only seven years old when a previous sex offender that was living accross the street from her family, abducted, violently rapped, and killed her. It was decided that if her family or other local residents had known that a previous sexual offender was residing in their neighborhood, this assult could've been prevented. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any objections.
Since the law has been put into effect, Nevada has made it a point to protect its residents the most recent information relating to previous sex offenders and their place of residence. The law has shown that while sex crimes are still a problem in this country, acts committed by prior offenders are on a decline.
